Special Reports and Analysis

For more than two decades, NISGUA has been known for its provision of high-quality research and hard-hitting analysis of issues critical to Guatemala. Recent critiques have addressed the contentious and controversial November 2003 presidential elections, focusing on electoral violence and fraud, and on the major power blocks behind the political scenes. Upcoming commentaries will focus on the impact of CAFTA (Dominican Republic – U.S. – Central America Free Trade Agreement) on Guatemala and the first year of the Berger administration. To read NISGUA analyses, click here.

In addition to these lengthier pieces, every year NISGUA produces a number of special reports on topical issues affecting Guatemala. Recent reports have included bulletins on the 2003 elections and the CAFTA negotiations.

These bulletins ensured that Representatives, Senators, and their staffers heard the concerns and outrage of those in Central America and the U.S. opposed to CAFTA.

Electoral Watch Reports

Along with our distribution of the Mirador Electoral’s Reports, and production of two analytical pieces, they formed a crucial part of our comprehensive English-language materials on electoral violence and other human rights concerns – information used by activists to draw important media and congressional attention to these matters.
