Tour Host Responsibilities

Event Preparation Work
Organizing Speaker Presentations
Consider organizing speaking events or presentations with universities, student
groups, religious congregations, high schools, community groups, law schools.
Arrange meetings with local and national media, other human rights and solidarity
organizations, and congressional offices. You may also want to consider alternative
venues such as informal lunches or coffee hours, etc…
Asking your current contacts for suggestions about people to approach is often
the best way reach out to new people. In certain places, like universities,
specific departments may be receptive to hosting or organizing an event because
the subject matter relates to the current interests of the department or specific
classes. Student groups can also be a window into the university setting and
may have separate funds that can help pay a speaker honorarium.

Media Coverage
Facilitate Media Coverage
Media coverage (print, radio, TV) of the Fall Tour has increased over the past
few years. Last year, hundreds of thousands throughout the U.S. were exposed
to the speakers’ messages through the media. Keep getting the word
out through your local press contacts, press releases, and calls to TV and
radio stations.
