> Attacks against human rights defenders in Guatemala have doubled over the last five years. NISGUA's teams of on-the-ground international human rights monitors work to deter violence in communities, courtrooms and at public events.

 > Former dictator Efrain Rios Montt, who ruled during the bloodiest period of the war, currently holds a seat in the Guatemalan Congress. He is wanted for genocide and crimes against humanity.

The Xalalá hydro-electric dam is rejected by 90% of the local population because it would displace thousands of indigenous people and damage farmlands and forests. 

Almost 400 mining concessions have been granted to transnational gold, silver, nickel, and zinc companies in Guatemala, posing severe threats to rural communities' social and environmental well-being.

Program Coordinator - Guatemala Accompaniment Project (G.A.P.)
The Program Coordinator for G.A.P. recruits, selects, and provides extensive training to human rights monitors and serves as the primary liaison with U.S. Sponsoring Communities that support G.A.P. and maintain relationships with Guatemalan communities.  She organizes NISGUA’s speaker tours in the U.S. and helps facilitate communication between Guatemalan groups and NISGUA's U.S. base regarding accompanied cases. Program Coordinator - Accompaniment Coordinator within ACOGUATE
The Accompaniment Coordinator is responsible for training and supervising NISGUA’s accompaniers in Guatemala.  He serves as a coordinator for the international accompaniment project ACOGUATE, maintains relationships with Guatemalan organizations and communities, and responds to human rights emergencies.  Email: acocp[at]nisgua.org.

Program Coordinator - Trade and Globalization / Mining
The Mining Program Coordinator works in coordination with Guatemalan communities affected by large-scale mining operations, including communities affected by the Marlin mine in San Marcos. The Program Coordinator coordinates international strategies with local ones, provides information and analysis between Guatemalan communities and NISGUA’s international networks, and helps coordinate U.S. tours and delegations related to mining.  Email: enlace[at]nisgua.org

Communications Coordinator
The Communications Coordinator is responsible for NISGUA's written and web-based publications.  She creates and distributes information and analysis on the current situation in Guatemala, including urgent actions, news updates, and in-depth studies. She also manages NISGUA’s webpage, blog and list-servs. Email: communications[at]nisgua.org

U.S.-based Staff

Grassroots Liaison
The Grassroots Liaison is responsible for managing NISGUA’s individual donor base and increasing network membership and grassroots activist participation.  She orchestrates the logistics and follow up for mailings, maintains NISGUA’s database, shares activist tools with the grassroots base, provides logistical assistance for events, and manages NISGUA’s e-lists and year-end calendar sales. Through ongoing contact with the network, the Grassroots Liaison identifies and supports strategies to increase network involvement (both financial giving and activism).  Email: organizer[at]nisgua.org

Finance Manager
The Finance Manager is responsible for NISGUA’s bookkeeping and accounting, bill pay, gifts processing, and provides general office support.  She also provides regular financial analysis to the Board for ongoing cash-flow projections and other financial forecasting.  Email: administrator[at]nisgua.org
