NISGUA National Network
............................................................................................

The Network in Solidarity with the People of Guatemala (NISGUA) is a grassroots, national network of local and regional Guatemala and Latin America solidarity committees, sponsoring communities, organizations, and activists who work together to support human rights and justice in Guatemala.

Local Activist Groups

Since its founding in 1981, NISGUA has been one of the strongest and steadiest advocates of responsible U.S. policy in the region thanks to the efforts of thousands of committed activists and donors around the country. Local activist groups respond to human rights violations, organize local events to educate the public about the current situation in Guatemala, lobby their local congresspeople on Guatemala-related issues, and help organize NISGUA’s annual fall speaking tour and delegation to Guatemala, among other activities. They always welcome new, energized activists.

Sponsoring Communities

Sponsoring Communities are community or religious groups, committees, and organizations committed to providing the resources and energy to assure ongoing human rights monitoring, otherwise known as accompaniment, in Guatemala. They cover the stipends of accompaniers in-country, organize follow-up tours and speaking engagements upon accompaniers’ return to the U.S., and maintain vital ongoing relationships with sister communities in Guatemala. Their long-term dedication to human rights is a key element to the sustainability of NISGUA’s Guatemala Accompaniment Project and the ten years of accompaniment we have been able to provide in Guatemala.
